Shuai Chang finished taking his medicine and went to the study to find him. Qi Sheng was standing on a chair, taking a picture book from the top shelf, looking quite surprised. His joy was such that he didn’t immediately change his expression upon seeing Lu Ming Shen.
“What’s making you so happy?”
Qi Sheng shook the picture book he was holding with a hint of showiness. In his excitement, he didn’t pay attention to his footing and lost his balance while trying to get down from the chair, suddenly tilting.
Shuai Chang’s heart leaped at that moment, and he rushed over like the wind, catching him just in time. He was panting, his face pale, and his heart was pounding; he said, “Thank goodness you’re alright.”
Qi Sheng was also startled, forgetting to struggle out of Shuai Chang’s embrace. Tears glistened in his clear eyes as he breathed out softly against Shuai Chang’s ear.
Shuai Chang gently patted his slender back, saying, “It’s alright; I caught you. Don’t be afraid.”
After a long moment, Qi Sheng finally came out of Shuai Chang’s embrace, his cheeks flushed, the frost on his face melting. “Thank you. I’m okay now,” he said, his voice still trembling a bit.
“I’ll go heat up some milk for you to calm your nerves. Next time you want to read something, just let me know. If you had really fallen, I can’t imagine how heartbroken I would have been.”
Shuai Chang spoke earnestly, his deep, captivating eyes fixed on Qi Sheng as if he were the only person in the world. Qi Sheng met his gaze and felt as though all his senses were absorbed into it, almost drowning in the depths of those eyes.
In truth, Qi Sheng had a very good first impression of Lu Ming Shen. He was handsome, and one could sense the overflowing hormones from afar. Qi Sheng, who was a natural gay, found Lu Ming Shen’s appearance to be exactly to his taste. When someone offered to introduce them, Qi Sheng readily accepted and had even envisioned a wonderful future for them in his mind the moment he saw Lu Ming Shen.
However, all expectations and fantasies shattered the instant Lu Ming Shen spoke. His smile seemed to have ulterior motives, and his crude words and sticky gaze made Qi Sheng uneasy.
Qi Sheng was furious and harshly criticized him.
From that moment on, everything went downhill. Qi Sheng’s father was tricked into signing an impossible contract that required a tenfold compensation if he couldn’t deliver by the agreed date. The company’s liquidity was insufficient at the time, and the bank refused to lend money, leading to bankruptcy.
In a single night, Qi Sheng’s father turned gray-haired. Their house was auctioned off, leaving them homeless. It was at this moment that Lu Ming Shen appeared, offering them a house, helping his family find jobs, and even disregarding his earlier mockery to continue pursuing Qi Sheng.
Out of gratitude, Qi Sheng accepted Lu Ming Shen’s affections, but until yesterday, before he smashed a vase on Lu Ming Shen, he had only felt disgust towards him.
Yet now, things felt a bit different.
Lu Ming Shen went to heat milk for him.
Qi Sheng stood still, clutching his chest as his heart raced faster. His blood surged, making him feel flushed all over, and his moist eyes resembled a spring. This sensation was somewhat unfamiliar to him.
The spirit shard chimed, “Ding! Qi Sheng’s heart rate has increased by one star!”
“What are you talking about? This is so random,” Shuai Chang said, carefully watching the milk pot, stirring it to prevent uneven heating.
The spirit shard replied, “Handsome, since you saved someone who was harmed by a scumbag, and that person happens to be your lover, this spirit shard has activated the ‘heartfelt perception’ mode. As long as Qi Sheng’s affection for you reaches a certain level, he can earn a star, with a maximum of ten stars. Handsome, aren’t I amazing?”
“Yes, you’re the best,” Shuai Chang said, turning off the fire and pouring the milk into a mug, then carefully carrying it to the study for Qi Sheng.
The spirit shard responded, “You’re being so perfunctory with the praise, handsome. This spirit shard can sense it!”
“I just wish that if you were bound to Qi Sheng, then he would understand my true intentions instead of doubting my motives.”
After Shuai Chang finished speaking, there was a brief silence from the spirit shard. “Wah, wah, wah, I can’t believe the host dislikes me. I don’t want to live anymore, wah, wah, wah~”
Shuai Chang’s hand shook in surprise, almost spilling the milk. He said with a dark expression, “Don’t imitate that whiny thing. How could I dislike you? You’re my work partner, and I need you very much. Without you, I can’t confirm that Qi Sheng is my lover. You’re very important to me, so don’t be sad.”
After soothing the spirit shard, Shuai Chang pushed the study door open. Qi Sheng had his back to him and was flipping through the picture book. Shuai Chang walked over and gently placed the mug down beside him. Qi Sheng halted his hands but didn’t lift his head.
Shuai Chang, unconcerned, said gently, “Drink it in five minutes; the temperature will be just right. Don’t forget.”
“Mm.” Qi Sheng replied softly.
Knowing he would drink it, Shuai Chang felt relieved. “I’ll go rest in my bedroom. Don’t stare at it for too long; it’s not good for your eyes.”
Qi Sheng’s current main bedroom was on the second floor, and Shuai Chang was not in a suitable condition to frequent the stairs, so he had Liu Sao clean up a room on the first floor for temporary use.
Once back in his bedroom, Shuai Chang realized he had forgotten to tell Qi Sheng something. Qi Sheng’s fall had startled him so much that his mind went blank, and he even forgot why he went to find him.
Being in the position of president, Shuai Chang didn’t need to handle everything personally. Besides major decisions that involved the company’s survival, other tasks could be adequately managed by the general manager and departmental managers. Only when negotiating projects with CEOs of the same level did he intervene personally.
Shuai Chang called his assistant Wang Shen. Recently, there hadn’t been any big events happening in the company, and he didn’t need to discuss projects, so he decided to take a month off to recuperate.
Wang Shen was highly capable, slim, fair-skinned, and exuded an elegant charm. Since Lu Ming Shen got married, he began sending cars and houses to court Wang Shen, but Wang Shen had remained unmoved.
Hearing that Shuai Chang wanted to take a month off, Wang Shen’s tense mood noticeably relaxed. Lu Ming Shen was no charming playboy; he was merely a heartbreaker, causing trouble for others while believing himself to be quite appealing.
“Oh, and help me buy a concert-level piano and all the necessary supplies for painting, then send them to Keren Villa.” There were two empty rooms on the second floor, just perfect to set up a piano room and an art studio for Qi Sheng. Since he forgot to mention it earlier, he thought it best to wait for the piano and art supplies to arrive and surprise him.
“Okay, President Lu,” Wang Shen replied, relieved. He was heterosexual and felt quite troubled by President Lu’s sudden advances. Now that President Lu was taking leave and ordering him to purchase these items, it was evident that he had a new target of affection.
